The Church has been on my list of places to stay at for some years and a couple of weeks ago I finally got to stay there! It is a gorgeous, little place, full of character and comfort and is exactly what I was looking for when I wanted a weekend outside of Auckland for some much needed peace and quiet.
I stayed in a studio room which was in a group of four. The interior of the room was clean, cosy, relaxed and full of charm. I absolutely adored the window seat and spent a couple of hours there reading and staring out the beautiful windows into my own petite garden courtyard. Each studio has an individual veranda and garden which although reasonably close together the design affords you privacy.
The Church has an array of cottages & units settled amongst 1.5 acres of native bush and gardens. The grounds and exterior design have a laidback cottage feel and are beautiful!
Stunning Hahei Beach is only a 5min walk away and Cathedral Cove which in my opinion is the best beach in the world is a only a 5 min drive and then a 40 min walk along a coastal track. There is a reconstructed 1916 Methodist Church on site which houses an independently run restaurant so you don’t even have to leave the grounds if you don’t want to. If you do however, there is a small selection of shops and restaurants only a 5 min stroll away.
The service at The Church, Hahei struck the right balance of being laidback while also attentive, friendly and helpful. I was able to check in a couple of hours early which was much appreciated.
Verdict? Will definitely, definitely be back!
